Project Overview
2009 HIA CSR Housing Awards - Award winning renovation
When this family wanted to transform their Erindale investment property into a family home to be proud of, they turned to AVJennings Home Improvements to bring their dreams to reality.
They originally bought the 1930s Tudor cottage as an investment property, but with the intention of one day bringing the property to life as their dream family home.
“We love this area and thought this house had so much character and potential, it would have been a shame to just knock it down and start again,” they said.
“We had a lot of our own ideas for rejuvenating the property and AV Jennings were able to incorporate our ideas into their plans and then give us a fixed quote so we knew exactly what we were committing to before they started work.”
The striking feature of the renovation is the seamless integration of old and new, bringing the style and character of the original 1930s property into a new contemporary open-plan living space.
AV Jennings design continued the original 3.2m high ceilings, the window trimming, cornices and skirtings in keeping with the era of the original house adding to the sense of continuity through the homes making it difficult to determine where the original property ends and the new extension begins.
The results are stunning with the home now boasting a large open-plan kitchen and family area, guest bedroom, bathroom, laundry and home theatre, all together doubling the original size of the home.

“With such a big project like this you really need to have confidence in your builder and AVJennings could not have been more helpful or patient in working with us to achieve the results we wanted”.
“With such a major extension, it was important it didn’t leave us feeling like you were leaving one home and entering a completely different house in the extension.”
“We couldn’t be happier with the results and AVJennings completed the project on-time and too budget”.
“If you own a property you love but want more space, I would definitely recommend you consider renovating, but just make sure you use a builder that you know and trust and will guarantee their work.”
