Before & After > Ground Floor > Sandstone Bungalow > Medindie Gardens
Project Overview
The clients at Medindie Gardens wanted to preserve the value and character of their 1925 bungalow by removing the existing cramped area lean to. The result is a bright and contemporary living area, with new floorboards and carpentry blending seamlessly with the home’s original features.
The final product displays AVJennings expertise in maintaining the original character of the homes. The work entailed the care taken in keeping the same ceiling height, architraves and skirting boards and classic Jarrah floor boards to the existing features of the home.
The design focus is a spacious new living area at the rear, with open access to the dining room and a study-come-spare room rounding out the new zone. A clever en suite was added to the side of the main bedroom, with the exterior treated with feature sandstone to blend with the original facade.

“We couldn’t believe how smoothly everything went,” Karen says. “AVJennings was very good – they really looked after us.”
Karen says they chose AVJennings because of the company’s reputation in working sympathetically with character homes.
“The finish is excellent, right down to the little things like the finish of the plumbing work, the details that not everyone would notice,” she says.
“The fixed price was just that - a fixed price,” she says. “We know people who have gone a different way and they’ve had cost blow outs.”
